Rating Criteria
Burn scars of the body or extremities (not head/face/neck): Area of deep or unstable scars covering < 5% of the body surface area; or superficial scars < 20% BSA; pigmentation changes with minor functional limitation.
Note: BSA = body surface area. Evaluate by Rule of Nines for initial area estimation.
Burn scars of the body or extremities: Area of deep or unstable scars covering 5–14% BSA; or superficial scars covering 20–39% BSA; moderate functional limitation (contractures affecting ROM).
Burn scars of the body or extremities: Area of deep or unstable scars covering 15–29% BSA; or superficial scars covering 40–59% BSA; significant functional limitation from contractures.
Burn scars of the body or extremities: Area of deep or unstable scars covering 30% or more BSA; or superficial scars covering 60% or more BSA; marked functional limitation from extensive contractures.
