Valvular Heart Disease (Rheumatic, etc.)

VA disability rating criteria for Valvular Heart Disease (Rheumatic, etc.) under Diagnostic Code 7000. The VA assigns ratings of 10%, 30%, 60%, 100% based on the severity and functional impact of your condition.

Rating Criteria

10%Disability Rating

Valvular heart disease: Workload of greater than 7 METs but not greater than 10 METs results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope; or continuous medication required.

Note: METs = Metabolic Equivalents. Exercise tolerance testing documents functional capacity. Includes aortic stenosis/regurgitation, mitral stenosis/regurgitation, tricuspid disease.

30%Disability Rating

Valvular heart disease: Workload of greater than 5 METs but not greater than 7 METs results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope; or left ventricular dysfunction with ejection fraction of 50–55%; or; chronic congestive heart failure (CHF), or; workload of greater than 5 METs but not greater than 7 METs results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope.

60%Disability Rating

Valvular heart disease: Workload of greater than 3 METs but not greater than 5 METs results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope; or left ventricular dysfunction with ejection fraction of 30–50%; or; chronic CHF requiring continuous medication.

100%Disability Rating

Valvular heart disease: Chronic congestive heart failure, or; workload of 3 METs or less results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope; or left ventricular dysfunction with ejection fraction less than 30%.
