Rating Criteria
Neuritis of the sciatic nerve: Mild. Intermittent sciatic pain radiating from lower back through buttock and down the leg; mild sensory changes; no motor deficit; responds to conservative treatment.
Note: Neuritis rated the same as paralysis of the same nerve. DC 8620 uses DC 8520 (sciatic nerve paralysis) rating schedule.
Neuritis of the sciatic nerve: Moderate. Frequent sciatic pain with sensory deficits in distribution of sciatic nerve; mild weakness of muscles innervated by sciatic nerve (hamstrings, lower leg); positive straight leg raise.
Neuritis of the sciatic nerve: Severe. Constant or near-constant sciatic pain; significant motor weakness of muscles below the knee; impaired reflexes (Achilles); significant sensory loss over posterior thigh, leg, and foot; substantially impaired gait and function.
Neuritis of the sciatic nerve: Complete. All muscles of the leg and foot paralyzed; total foot drop; complete sensory loss below knee; absent Achilles reflex; requiring AFO or assistive device for ambulation.
