Veteran Benefits connector
Veteran benefits in Claude and ChatGPT
Veteran Benefits lets your AI assistant answer questions about VA disability benefits with real numbers instead of memory: state veteran benefits, your combined VA rating, and the published VA pay rates, with no sign-in. Sign in with a free VeteranHQ account and it can also compare your profile with published benefit criteria and estimate your monthly VA pay.

THE TOOLS
What you can ask it
Your assistant shows you the plain title and calls the tool by the name beside it. Every tool only reads.
Without sign-in
No accountGeneral tools. They answer from published tables and program information, and they never see who you are.
- Browse veteran benefits by state
browse_veteran_benefits_by_stateLists state veteran benefits and federal programs for one state, by category, as general program information from public sources.
- Calculate a combined VA rating
calculate_combined_va_ratingCombines individual VA disability ratings into one combined VA rating with the 38 CFR 4.25 combined ratings table, not a rough average.
- Look up VA disability pay rates
lookup_va_disability_pay_ratesReturns the published monthly VA disability compensation rates for a rating and family situation.
- Find crisis support and free claim help
find_claim_helpPuts the Veterans Crisis Line first when someone is in crisis, and otherwise points to free accredited help: Veterans Service Organizations, accredited attorneys and claims agents, your state veterans agency, VA phone numbers and form links.
With sign-in
Free accountPersonal tools. They read your own VeteranHQ profile, only after you sign in and approve exactly what they can see.
- See benefits that match your profile
get_my_benefitsChecks your VeteranHQ profile against the program requirements we can evaluate for federal and state veteran benefits and lists the ones it passes. Other program requirements may apply, and the VA or the state agency that runs the program decides.
- Read your benefit profile
get_my_benefit_profileReads the facts on your profile that benefit criteria use: your VA rating, P&T and TDIU status, state, number of dependents, branch, service component, service dates, combat-veteran status and discharge.
- Estimate your monthly VA pay
estimate_my_monthly_va_payEstimates your monthly VA disability pay from the rating and dependents on your profile, using the published rate tables. Your VA award letter states the amount VA pays.
- List your documents
list_my_documentsLists the documents on your VeteranHQ account, such as your VA letters and forms that you choose to share, by title, type, date and summary.
- Read one of your documents
read_my_documentReads the text of one document, such as one of your VA letters and forms that you choose to share, only if you switched on document text when you connected, with personal identifiers removed automatically.
CONNECT
Add it to your assistant
In Claude it takes a minute. The general tools work right away; signing in to VeteranHQ adds the personal ones.
Claude
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and find Veteran Benefits in the directory. Until the listing appears there, choose Add custom connector, name it Veteran Benefits, and paste the server URL.
https://api.veteranhq.app/mcp-veteranbenefitsPress Connect.
When Claude asks, sign in to VeteranHQ, review what the connector can read, and approve. Document text stays off unless you switch it on.

What it reads, and what it never does
The same lines the sign-in screen shows you before you approve anything.
What it reads after sign-in
Your combined VA disability rating, P&T and TDIU status, state, number of dependents (never their names or birth dates), branch, service component, service dates and era, whether you are still serving, whether you are recorded as a combat veteran, character of discharge, and the titles, types, dates and summaries of the documents on your account, such as your VA letters and forms that you choose to share. Without sign-in it reads nothing about you.
Privacy policyDocument text is a separate opt-in
Document text is off unless you switch it on when you connect. Only then can your assistant read the text of a document, one at a time. Personal identifiers are removed automatically and some may be missed. Your uploaded files themselves never leave VeteranHQ.
Read only
Nothing can be changed through this connector. It reads, it never writes, and it never submits anything to the VA or a state agency.
Disconnect any time
Turn off connector access in your VeteranHQ settings, or remove the connector in your assistant. Turning it off blocks new requests; it cannot take back information already sent.
Checks we evaluated, not a decision
A benefit match means your profile passes the checks we evaluated. Other program requirements may apply, and the VA or the state agency that runs the program decides.
Not the VA
Veteran Benefits is by VeteranHQ. Not affiliated with the VA.
QUESTIONS
Straight answers
It is a connector by VeteranHQ that lets Claude, and soon ChatGPT, look up veteran benefits for you. Without signing in it browses state veteran benefits, calculates a combined VA rating, looks up VA disability pay rates, and points to the Veterans Crisis Line and free accredited claim help. With a free VeteranHQ account it can also read your benefit profile, list benefits that match it, and estimate your monthly VA pay.
Not for the general tools. State benefits, the combined VA rating calculator and the VA pay rate tables work with no account. The personal tools need a free VeteranHQ account, and you approve what they can read when you connect.
It checks your profile against the requirements of federal and state programs that it can evaluate and lists the programs whose checks your profile passes, with where each one comes from. Other program requirements may apply, and the VA or the state agency that runs a program makes the decision, so treat the list as the place to start your application, not the answer.
It takes the rating and dependents on your VeteranHQ profile and reads the matching amount from the published VA compensation rate tables. It is an estimate; the amount on your VA award letter is what VA pays.
It works with the documents on your account, such as your VA letters and forms that you choose to share. Document text is off unless you switch it on when you connect. Without it, it can list your documents by title, type, date and summary. With it, it reads one document at a time, with personal identifiers removed automatically, though some may be missed. Your files themselves never leave VeteranHQ.
Veteran Benefits is pending directory review for ChatGPT. Claude, Claude Code and other clients that add a remote MCP server can use it today.
Turn off connector access in your VeteranHQ settings, which blocks new requests from every assistant you connected, or remove the connector in your assistant. Information already sent cannot be taken back.
No. Veteran Benefits is by VeteranHQ. Not affiliated with the VA. It uses published VA rate tables and public program information.
