Arizona State Veterans Homes — Skilled Nursing Care

Subsidized skilled nursing care

Arizona operates four state veterans homes providing skilled nursing care in Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma. Facilities offer 24-hour nursing, rehabilitation, and specialized care.

Arizona Veterans Immediate In-State Tuition

Immediate in-state tuition rates (savings of $15,000-$25,000/year)

Veterans and their dependents are granted immediate in-state residency status for tuition purposes at Arizona public universities and community colleges, regardless of how recently they moved to the state.

Arizona Veterans Waiver of Tuition

Full tuition waiver

Provides a waiver of tuition and fees at Arizona state universities and community colleges for dependents of veterans who were killed or became 100% disabled in service.

Arizona Veterans Employment Preference

5-10 additional exam points

Veterans who pass a state, county, or city employment examination receive 5 additional points. Honorably separated veterans with a service-connected disability receive 10 additional points.

Arizona Military Family Relief Fund

Up to $3,000 per application ($20,000 lifetime)

Provides financial assistance of up to $3,000 per application (lifetime limit of $20,000) to families of deployed service members and veteran families experiencing hardship caused by military service.

Arizona Military Retirement Pay Income Tax Exemption

Full exemption of military retirement income from state tax

All military retirement pay from the U.S. Armed Forces is fully exempt from Arizona state income tax. Also applies to Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) and Reserve Component Survivor Benefit Plan (RCSBP) annuities.

Arizona Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exemption

Up to $4,748 exemption (2025, proportional to disability rating)

Veterans with a service-connected disability and meeting income limits may receive a property tax exemption of up to $4,748 (2025, adjusted annually for inflation). The exemption amount is proportional to the veteran's disability rating. Household income cannot exceed $38,843 (or $46,600 with qualifying dependents) and the property assessed value cannot exceed $31,347.

Arizona Disabled Veterans Vehicle Registration and License Tax Exemption

Free vehicle registration and license tax

Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability are exempt from vehicle license tax and registration fees for one personally owned vehicle. Also applies to vehicles acquired through VA financial aid.

Arizona Veterans Hunting and Fishing License Discounts

Free to 50% off hunting/fishing licenses

Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability receive free hunting/fishing combination licenses. Veterans with any service-connected disability receive 25% off, and Purple Heart recipients receive 50% off.

Arizona State Parks Free Admission for Veterans

Free state park access

Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability receive free day-use access to Arizona State Parks for themselves and immediate family members.

Arizona State Parks Discounted Access for Partially Disabled Veterans

50% off day-use entrance fees

Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 10-90% receive 50% off day-use entrance fees at Arizona State Parks. Active duty, Guard, and Reserve members also receive 50% off.

Free veteran interment
