Healthcare
Value: Subsidized skilled nursing care
Arizona operates four state veterans homes providing skilled nursing care in Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma. Facilities offer 24-hour nursing, rehabilitation, and specialized care.
Note: Four locations statewide. Must be honorably discharged and certified by a doctor as needing skilled nursing care. VA per diem helps offset costs.
Education
Value: Immediate in-state tuition rates (savings of $15,000-$25,000/year)
Veterans and their dependents are granted immediate in-state residency status for tuition purposes at Arizona public universities and community colleges, regardless of how recently they moved to the state.
Note: Waives 12-month residency requirement. Saves $15,000-$25,000/year at ASU, U of A, or NAU. Dependents also eligible.
Value: Full tuition waiver
Provides a waiver of tuition and fees at Arizona state universities and community colleges for dependents of veterans who were killed or became 100% disabled in service.
Note: For dependents of KIA or 100% disabled veterans only. Covers tuition and fees at AZ public universities and community colleges. Apply through institution financial aid office.
Employment
Value: 5-10 additional exam points
Veterans who pass a state, county, or city employment examination receive 5 additional points. Honorably separated veterans with a service-connected disability receive 10 additional points.
Note: Non-disabled veterans: 5 points. Disabled veterans: 10 points. DVOP specialists provide one-on-one employment support at local workforce centers.
Financial
Value: Up to $3,000 per application ($20,000 lifetime)
Provides financial assistance of up to $3,000 per application (lifetime limit of $20,000) to families of deployed service members and veteran families experiencing hardship caused by military service.
Note: For families with hardships caused by military service. Up to $3,000 per application with $20,000 lifetime cap.
Tax
Value: Full exemption of military retirement income from state tax
All military retirement pay from the U.S. Armed Forces is fully exempt from Arizona state income tax. Also applies to Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) and Reserve Component Survivor Benefit Plan (RCSBP) annuities.
Note: Signed into law June 2021. Covers all military retired pay, SBP, RCSBP, RSFPP annuities. Active duty pay also exempt.
Value: Up to $4,748 exemption (2025, proportional to disability rating)
Veterans with a service-connected disability and meeting income limits may receive a property tax exemption of up to $4,748 (2025, adjusted annually for inflation). The exemption amount is proportional to the veteran's disability rating. Household income cannot exceed $38,843 (or $46,600 with qualifying dependents) and the property assessed value cannot exceed $31,347.

Transportation
Value: Free vehicle registration and license tax
Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability are exempt from vehicle license tax and registration fees for one personally owned vehicle. Also applies to vehicles acquired through VA financial aid.
Note: Must be 100% service-connected disabled and drawing VA compensation. Free driver license for 100% disabled veterans also available.
Recreation
Value: Free to 50% off hunting/fishing licenses
Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability receive free hunting/fishing combination licenses. Veterans with any service-connected disability receive 25% off, and Purple Heart recipients receive 50% off.
Note: 100% disabled: free. Purple Heart: 50% off. Any service-connected disability: 25% off. General veterans with 1+ year residency: $5 combination license.
Value: Free state park access
Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability receive free day-use access to Arizona State Parks for themselves and immediate family members.
Note: Must be 100% disabled. Covers veteran and immediate family. Present VA ID card at park entrance.
Value: 50% off day-use entrance fees
Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 10-90% receive 50% off day-use entrance fees at Arizona State Parks. Active duty, Guard, and Reserve members also receive 50% off.
Note: Distinct from the 100% disabled free admission. 10-90% disabled veterans get 50% off with VA letter and AZ driver license.

Value: Free veteran interment
Arizona operates three state veterans memorial cemeteries in Camp Navajo (Bellemont), Marana, and Sierra Vista providing free interment for eligible veterans.
